Yibin University is a comprehensive full-time undergraduate institution located in the historic and cultural city of Yibin in Sichuan Province. It was authorized by the Chinese Ministry of Education in 2001 and formed by the union of Yibin Normal College and the Yibin Branch of Sichuan Education College.
Yibin University occupies an area of over 208 acres, including 380,000 square meters of school buildings. The university also maintains teaching equipment valued at over 100 million RMB, a collection of more than 4,000,000 books (including 2,500,000 e-books) and fixed assets of nearly 600 million RMB.
Of the 1118 members of faculty and staff, 358 have senior academic titles, and 681 have doctorates or master’s degrees. Yibin University’s faculty also includes nine provincial leaders and renowned teachers who have made outstanding contributions to academia and technology in Sichuan Province and more than 120 experts and professors with both practical and applied skills serving as specially appointed visiting professors and senior engineers.
At present, Yibin University is composed of 18 colleges and offers 60 majors in nine areas of study: liberal arts, science, engineering, management, economics, law, education, fine arts and agriculture. The student body is made up of nearly 16,000 full-time students recruited from 23 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions all over China.
Yibin University is home to a number of research bases and centers, including the Sichuan Solid-State Fermentation Resources Utilization Laboratory, the Postdoctoral Innovation Base and Research Center of Chinese Wine Culture, the Sichuan Philosophy and Social Science Key Research Base, the Sichuan Thinkers Center, the Chinese Wine History Research Center, the Humanities and Social Science Research Base of Sichuan Higher Education, the newly upgraded Reform and Development Research Center of Sichuan Undergraduate Colleges, the Sichuan Research Center for Rural Preschool Education and the Water Transport Economic Research Center. There are also key laboratories focusing on areas such as fermentation resources and application, computational physics, aromatic plant resources exploitation and utilization, and process analysis and control.
Throughout its history, Yibin University has won multiple honorary titles such as “Nationally Civilized Institution,” “A Model School of National Linguistic and Literary Work,” “National Institution for the Advancement of Physical Education” “A Top 400 Institution to Make Progress in Afforestation,” “Sichuan Province Garden-Like University” and “Superior Institution of College Graduate Employment in Sichuan Province.”
Yibin University attaches great importance to the cultivation of students’ applied skills, innovation and entrepreneurship. Since 2012, students have won 139 national and 328 provincial awards in national skill competitions, and the number of students participating in national vocational skill competitions, innovation and entrepreneurship training programs and contests in various disciplines has increased substantially. These include 39 first place prizes in competitions such as the National Undergraduate Electronic Design Competition, the National Undergraduate Computer Design Competition, the VEX Robotics Competition and the National Teaching Skills Contest for Normal College Students. The number of students to obtain national patent authorizations in recent years has increased significantly, and there is a remarkable improvement in students’ overall performance. For many years, the employment rate of graduates of Yibin University continues to exceed 90%.
Yibin University is a pilot university of the Global Corporate College and Global Applied Technical Education (GCC-GATE)’s “One Hundred-One Hundred Plan,” and has piloted plans of comprehensive transformation development and reform in Sichuan Province. Yibin University has also established joint programs with six famous domestic universities such as Tongji University, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China and Southwestern University, and sends top students to these schools each year. According to an agreement with BSK International Education Agency, students can pursue their graduate studies in Germany and earn a German certificate of engineering. Yibin University holds ACCA licensed accounting training programs which specialize in training highly competent accountants.
At present, Yibin University has signed several international cooperation agreements, and is making efforts to build international schools such as the Sino-American Applied Technology School, the Sino-German Tonji School of Engineering, and the Sino-Russian Sichuan Art School of Saratov. Yibin University also cooperates with Japan, Russia, South Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan and Hong Kong, facilitating a robust mechanism of exchange between teachers and students.
